George Zain was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up attending St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral, where his father, the Very Reverend Fr. Thomas Zain, continues to serve as Dean.

His journey in Byzantine chant began in 2018 when he started studying Byzantine music with a local hieromonk, Archimandrite Gerasimos Makris. After being tonsured a Reader in 2019 and studying chant for approximately four years, George began teaching Byzantine music part-time at Kimisis Tis Theotokou in Southampton, New York. Following his graduation from Hofstra University with a Bachelor of Arts in 2024, he spent two months in New Orleans studying intensively under Masterchanter John Michael Boyer.

Upon completing his studies, George returned to Brooklyn, where he now serves as Pastoral Assistant, Youth Director, and Chanter at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church. In addition to his pastoral responsibilities, he directs the parish's youth music ministry and teaches Byzantine chant privately. More recently, he has continued his studies online through the Hellenic Conservatory of Music & Arts in Athens under the direction of Masterchanter Athanasios Paivanas.

George is also developing his work as a composer and has produced settings of both liturgical and paraliturgical hymns in an effort to expand the English-language repertoire of Byzantine chant. He is a founding member of the Sons of Antioch and a member of the National Antiochian Orthodox Choir of North America. He has also performed with the Greek Archdiocesan Byzantine Choir of America, the Romanos O Melodos Chanters' Society of Greater New York, and various other choirs and ensembles.

George is currently a seminarian of the Antiochian Archdiocese and is pursuing a Master of Divinity through the Antiochian House of Studies. He expects to graduate in the spring of 2030.
